By offering a full-parallel hybrid drive system, the 2017 Sonata Hybrid can run on a gasoline internal combustion engine, an electric motor, or both, creating the perfect blend of power and efficiency. Powered by a 2.0L engine with class-exclusive Gasoline Direct Injection technology and a 38kW electric motor, the Sonata Hybrid delivers a net output of 193 horsepower – with a total estimated range of over 1,100 km on a single tank of gas^.


Engineered to give you confidence and peace of mind, our development team built the vehicle chassis using a high composition of our Advanced High Strength Steel for exceptional stiffness and strength. The result is an ultra-rigid vehicle frame that helps protect occupants inside the vehicle by absorbing harmful energy in the event of a collision and redirecting it away from the passenger compartment. The 2017 Sonata Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid are also equipped with seven standard airbags, a standard rearview camera and an array of available driver assistance and situational awareness technologies to help keep you informed of potential driving dangers

ADVANCED BATTERY TECHNOLOGY

The Sonata Hybrid and Sonata Plug-in Hybrid store their electrical energy in a highly advanced lithium-ion polymer battery. Lithium-ion polymer, the next generation of lithium-ion technology, is ideally suited to automotive applications thanks to its robust and reliable chemistry. Lithium-ion polymer batteries are smaller, lighter, longer-lasting and more energy-dense than the batteries found in competing hybrid vehicles. This class-leading battery technology translates into class-leading versatility for the Sonata Hybrid.

Safety Highlights

7 STANDARD AIRBAGS1

The 2017 Sonata Hybrid features seven standard airbags, including a driver’s knee airbag for added protection.

1 The Supplemental Restraint (Airbag) System (SRS) is designed to work with the 3-point seatbelt system. The SRS deploys in certain frontal and/or side impact conditions where significant injury is likely. The SRS is not a substitute for seatbelts, which must still be worn at all times. Children under the age of 13 should be securely restrained in the rear seat. NEVER place a child seat in the front seat of a Hyundai vehicle.

BLIND SPOT DETECTION WITH LANE CHANGE ASSIST 2

Blind Spot Detection (BSD) uses radar to detect when a vehicle is in the driver’s blind spot and provides both an audible and visual alert to help keep you aware as you move down the road. Working in conjunction with BSD, Lane Change Assist measures the closing speed of traffic approaching in adjacent lanes to help determine if a lane change is safe.

2Never rely completely on Blind Spot Detection (BSD) and be sure to use proper lane changing procedures. BSD will not detect every object or vehicle and will not prevent accidents. Always look over your shoulder and use your mirrors to confirm clearance. See Owner’s Manual for further details and limitations.

REAR CROSS-TRAFFIC ALERT3

Activated during reverse driving, the available Rear Cross-Traffic Alert system uses radar sensors to scan the areas to each side of the Sonata Hybrid when drivers are backing out of parking spaces. If the system detects another vehicle is approaching from the side, the Sonata driver is given an audible alert.

3Never rely exclusively on the Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. Always look over your shoulder and use your mirrors to confirm rear clearance. There are limitations to the function, detection, range and clarity of the system. The system may not detect every vehicle. This system does not detect stationary objects. Vehicle must be in reverse and has to be traveling at 10 km/h or less. See Owner’s Manual for further details and limitations.

LANE DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEM4

Drift outside your lane without signaling and this available system is designed to inform you with audible and visual cues.

4 The Lane Departure Warning System operates when vehicle speed exceeds 70km/h and only when the lane markings are clearly visible on the road and detected by the system. It will not prevent loss of control. See Owner’s Manual for further details and limitations.

FORWARD COLLISION WARNING6

Using a forward-sensing camera, the available Forward Collision Warning system monitors closing speed to the vehicle ahead to warn the driver of a potential collision. If a potential collision is detected, an auditory alarm alerts you immediately.

6The Forward Collision Warning System is intended to be a supplement to safe driving practices. The system is not designed to detect certain stationary objects and may not detect all vehicles under certain conditions. The system does not provide a braking function. The driver is responsible for being attentive and maintaining control of the vehicle, and should not wait for the system's alerts before braking as there may not be sufficient time to brake safely. ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL 6

For added convenience, the available Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system automatically and continuously adjusts your pre-set driving speed to maintain a pre-determined distance from the vehicle ahead. In stop-and-go traffic, ACC can even bring the vehicle to a complete stop and then accelerate again, when appropriate, without driver input.

6Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with stop/start capability is not a collision-avoidance or warning device. ACC is for highway use only and should not be used in poor weather, heavy or varying traffic, or on winding or slippery roads. Driver remains responsible to slow or stop the vehicle to avoid a collision. Acceleration after the vehicle comes to a complete stop will only occur when the vehicle has been stopped for less than three seconds. See Owner’s Manual for further details and limitations.
