Electric when you want it. Gas when you need it.

The IONIQ Plug-in Hybrid offers the best of both worlds, with a larger lithium-ion polymer battery (compared to the Hybrid model) to provide up to 47 kilometres of all-electric, emissions-free driving.

With a larger battery that can be plugged in and charged in under three hours (level 2 charger), the IONIQ Plug-in Hybrid is capable of travelling up to 47 kilometres on electric power alone. Once the electric-only range is depleted, the IONIQ Plug-in Hybrid reverts to operate like the traditional IONIQ Hybrid, on a full parallel hybrid drive system.

The IONIQ Plug-in Hybrid features a 1.6L Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine (combined 164 horsepower, combined 195 lb-ft torque) that is paired with a larger 44.5 kW electric motor (compared to the Hybrid model) to deliver efficient cruising. A class-exclusive 6-speed EcoShift Dual Clutch Transmission further enhances efficiency and provides instant engine feedback for unparalleled responsiveness.

The IONIQ Plug-in Hybrid features a sophisticated multi-link rear suspension system with dual lower control arms, minimizing ride and handling compromises. It enables more precise tuning of key suspension components, designed to elevate on-road dynamics and feel.

This highly advanced energy management system analyzes road and route data via the standard navigation system to help make the IONIQ Plug-in Hybrid as efficient as possible. Simply pre-set your destination and ECO-DAS uses topographical information provided by the navigation system to predict changes in elevation along your route and manage battery energy usage and regeneration to complement the gasoline engine in the most efficient manner.

The drive modes have been engineered to give you an electrifying and engaging driving experience. Eco mode provides the efficiency you’d expect, while everything changes in Sport mode. The powertrain uses the electric power to boost torque levels for a totally different feeling. The digital instrument cluster even changes appearance and colour when a different drive mode is selected.

The IONIQ Plug-in Hybrid keeps you informed of the battery charge status and of your estimated electric range. It will also map out charge stations within your electric-only range, so that if you prefer to charge up rather than switching to the gasoline engine (once the battery is depleted), you can do so.

Hyundai SmartSense™

Our suite of available Hyundai SmartSense™ safety features includes a range of camera, radar and motion detection technologies designed to give you added peace of mind.

Take basic cruise control to the next level of convenience. Set your pre-determined speed and distance to the vehicle ahead, and this standard system will automatically adjust the vehicle speed to maintain the set distance. The system will even operate in stop-and-go traffic, bringing the vehicle to a complete stop when necessary and then resuming automatically.

Capable of sensing a vehicle approaching the driver’s blind spot, available Blind-Spot Collision Warning provides both an audible and visual alert to help reduce the potential for a collision. Our innovative system also features Lane Change Assist, which measures the closing speed of traffic approaching in adjacent lanes to help determine if a lane change is safe.

Designed to detect the onset of driver fatigue, this standard system will monitor driver input and issue a visual and audible alert if fatigue is sensed, suggesting a break.

This standard safety feature is designed to detect a vehicle, pedestrian or cyclist and warn the driver of a potential frontal collision. If the driver does not react to avoid impact, the system will apply emergency braking.

Think of this available feature like your “co-pilot” for highway driving. When actively engaged with Lane Following Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control with traffic stop and go, this semi-autonomous driving technology helps keep you centred in your lane and travelling at a safe distance behind the vehicle ahead. Not only that, it can also maintain your driving speed at the right level, automatically setting your pace based on GPS and highway data provided via the available navigation system.

Drift outside your lane without signalling and this standard system will alert you with audible and visual cues. If no action is taken, Lane Keeping Assist can apply corrective steering assistance to help you remain within your lane markings.

Using the front-view camera to detect lane markers on the road, this standard feature assists the driver’s steering to help keep the vehicle centred inside the lane.

The available Parking Distance Warning – Reverse feature uses sensors embedded into the rear bumper to make reverse parking easier by producing a warning sound for the driver if the rear of the vehicle gets too close to an object. As the vehicle approaches closer to the object, the warning sound will increase in frequency.

Activated during reverse driving, the standard Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning system uses radar to help identify and warn the driver of vehicles approaching from the side, even before they come into view of the standard rearview camera.

Having the right tire pressure is more than just good for your tires and fuel economy – it’s a safety issue too. The standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) makes safety and driving efficiency a top priority, with sensors for optimal tire functionality and real-time pressure monitoring. The TPMS lets you monitor air pressure levels in each individual tire at all times, warning the driver if pressure drops.

At the core of the IONIQ is the SUPERSTRUCTURETM, an ultra-rigid vehicle frame constructed using our very own Advanced High-Strength Steel to deliver exceptional stiffness and rigidity. In the event of a collision, the SUPERSTRUCTURETM helps protect occupants inside the vehicle by absorbing harmful energy and redirecting it away from the passenger compartment.
