The Hyundai ACCENT was a popular vehicle with great features. While it isn’t available anymore, the VENUE, a subcompact crossover, and the ELANTRA, a compact sedan, share many of the same advantages.

Wondering which vehicle is best for you? We’ll walk through some of the ACCENT’s biggest advantages, then see how the VENUE and ELANTRA compare.

Fuel Efficiency

The ACCENT was an incredibly fuel-efficient vehicle, saving drivers money on gas. Both the VENUE and ELANTRA follow in its footsteps.

The VENUE has an excellent combined estimated fuel economy of 7.5 L/100 km; meanwhile, vehicles in its class have an average combined estimated fuel economy of 9.0 L/100 km1. This means that VENUE drivers save $450 on fuel annually, assuming they drive 20,000 km/year and pay $1.50/L for gas.

Similarly, the base ELANTRA model has an estimated combined fuel economy of 6.8 L/100 km, and the hybrid configuration has a combined estimated fuel economy of 4.7 L/100 km. In contrast, the average vehicle in the ELANTRA’s class has a combined estimated fuel economy of 8.9 L/100 km1. While savings vary by trim, owners of the base ELANTRA gas configuration can expect to save $640/year on fuel, assuming they drive 20,000 km annually and spend $1.50/L on gas. Owners of the hybrid ELANTRA will save $1,260 in the same circumstances.

Advanced Technology

Technology has developed over the years, and many features that were available on higher-tier 2020 ACCENT configurations now come standard on both the ELANTRA and VENUE. Both the VENUE and ELANTRA feature Bluetooth, with wireless Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® support on all VENUE and some ELANTRA configurations.

Additionally, the VENUE comes with a wireless charger as standard on the base trim; a wireless charger is also available on the ELANTRA.

Spaciousness

Despite its compact footprint, the ACCENT was remarkably spacious inside—another aspect it shares with the VENUE and ELANTRA.

Both cars offer a generous amount of cargo space. The VENUE has a 528-litre trunk and offers 902 litre of cargo space when the rear seats are lowered. Meanwhile, the ELANTRA comes with a 402-litre trunk. All VENUE and select ELANTRA configurations offer 60/40 folding for the rear seats, allowing you to adjust your car’s interior based on your needs.

Additionally, the VENUE and ELANTRA both prioritize passenger comfort. Each vehicle offers a spacious cabin with generous head room and leg room. No matter which car you pick, you’ll have plenty of space for your passengers and cargo.

Safety

The ACCENT, VENUE, and ELANTRA each reflect Hyundai’s commitment to safety. In particular, the VENUE and ELANTRA take advantage of Hyundai’s latest innovations to offer a wide range of safety features, including Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems.

Both models come with Lane Keeping Assist, which gently assists steering to ensure that your vehicle stays centered within its lane. Additionally, the VENUE comes with Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA 1) with Pedestrian Detection, which helps to detect and warn drivers about potential forward collisions. Under certain circumstances, it may also use emergency brakes to prevent collisions. Meanwhile, the ELANTRA comes with available Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA 1.5) with Pedestrian, Cyclist, and Junction-Turning Detection.

The ELANTRA also offers available Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems for added peace of mind, including Smart Cruise Control which is like traditional cruise control with the added benefit of automatically adjusting the vehicle’s speed to match traffic, and Highway Driving Assist which adjusts cruise control speed based on road conditions such as speed limit changes and road curves.

Choosing Your Next Vehicle

The VENUE and ELANTRA both share lots of great characteristics with the ACCENT, but they ultimately cater to a different set of needs:

  • Consider choosing the VENUE if: you’re looking for a vehicle with the smallest footprint possible, want more cargo space, or enjoy the flexibility of an SUV.
  • Consider choosing the ELANTRA if: you’d prefer the form factor of a sedan or are looking for the best possible fuel economy.
