Girl adds handprint to Hyundai Hope on Wheels car

At Hyundai Canada, we’re dedicated to improving our communities. That’s why we’ve launched Hyundai Hope on Wheels, a registered non-profit organization that supports pediatric cancer research and patients, in Canada alongside our dealerships.

Since both Hyundai Canada and all 226 Canadian Hyundai dealerships jointly support Hyundai Hope on Wheels, a portion of all new Hyundai vehicle purchases in Canada will be donated to the organization as of January 1, 2025.

Hyundai Hope on Wheels Seeks to Drive Change

Hyundai Canada is motivated by the idea of ‘Progress for Humanity’, a principle of our brand ethos that pushes us to improve the lives of those in our communities.

We have also been deeply inspired by the American Hyundai Hope on Wheels, which began in 1998 and has since grown to be one of the biggest sources of pediatric cancer research funding in America. We are eager to expand Hyundai Hope on Wheels into Canada, as we know that  pediatric cancer is devastating and cannot be ignored.

Each year, around 1,000 Canadian children are diagnosed with cancer. About one in six of those children will pass away from the disease. Fortunately, advancements in research have reduced fatality rates. That is why Hyundai Canada and our dealerships have committed to supporting childhood cancer research and patients.

History of Hyundai Hope on Wheels

While Hyundai Hope on Wheels is new to Canada, the initiative has already made a substantial impact on the lives of young oncology patients and their families.

Hyundai Hope on Wheels was founded in 1998 by Hyundai Motor America and a group of dealerships in the New England area. Since then, they have donated over $250 million towards cancer research and improving the lives of young cancer patients. Because this research has expanded researchers’ understanding of cancer, it has also been able to improve cancer treatment around the globe.

Here at Hyundai Canada, we are impressed by the American Hyundai Hope on Wheels program. We also deeply appreciate the work that Canadian pediatric cancer institutions have accomplished. With the launch of Hyundai Hope on Wheels in Canada, we are eager to expand the work of our American counterparts by proudly supporting Canadian pediatric cancer institutions.

Supporting Charities that Uplift Communities

Each year, the Canadian Hyundai Hope on Wheels will provide grants to a variety of pediatric cancer institutions. These will be offered for a couple of different purposes.

Our research grants will be awarded to fund cancer research, while our impact donations may be used to fund research or support a pediatric oncology department’s young cancer patients. Impact donations are designed to be flexible in recognition of the fact that a childhood cancer diagnosis requires far more care and support beyond treatment; for example, they may be used for educational programs, supporting patients’ families on-site, enrichment activities, or other similar purposes.

The Canadian Hyundai Hope on Wheels will donate over $4 million to pediatric cancer institutions in 2025, including an inaugural donation of $2 million. Of that $2 million, The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and CHU Sainte-Justine will each receive a $1 000,000 research grants. Additionally, four pediatric oncology centers across Canada will each receive $100,000.

Each New Vehicle Purchased Makes a Difference

All Canadian Hyundai dealerships have generously agreed to support the Hyundai Hope on Wheels program alongside Hyundai Canada. Thanks to this partnership, a portion of each new car sale will be donated to Hyundai Hope on Wheels as of January 1, 2025.
